CARO-KANN

The tribulations and triumphs of the Advanced Caro-Kann
Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen are typical kids of Internet chess. During their teenage years they spent many hours blitzing online. As they grew older and their chess matured, they became more serious. Their opening preparation has been excellent. Good examples are two Caro-Kann games they played in Wijk aan Zee.
The solid Caro-Kann was played by many great players such as the world champions Jose Raul Capablanca, Mikhail Botvinnik, Tigran Petrosian, Anatoly Karpov and Anand. Even the young Kasparov tried it for a while. Black's position is sound and exchanging a few light pieces greatly diminishes white's attacking chances. In the Advanced variation white grabs space and keeps most of the pieces in play - and it pleases all attacking souls. The following two games show the tricks and twists of the popular line. In the first game Nakamura as black meets the Russian champion Ian Nepomniachtchi and the play turns wild in no time.

Nakamura wins first Super GM event

Hikaru Nakamura of the United States (see picture) took the 10,000-euro first prize in the 73rd Tata Steel Tournament after an exciting scramble for the top spot in the final round of the annual Wijk-aan-Zee chess spectacular Sunday. World champion Viswanathan Anand of India finished second, half a point behind Nakamura, to earn 7,000 euros.
Nakamura, going into the final round with the smallest possible lead on Anand, was pitted with black in a Ben Oni against China’s Wang Hao, who handled the opening in an unusual way to obtain a slight edge. The advantage didn’t last for long, however. Fifteen moves into the game, Nakamura evened out and seven moves later, a draw was agreed.

Unquestionably the game of the round in a competitive sense had to be that between the young Italian/American Fabiano Caruana and the veteran superstar Viktor Korchnoi. *

Así fuimos capaz de tener acceso a las cinco primeras mesas directamente. Born in 1990 in Buenos Aires, Damian qualified for the IM title in 2006 aged 15 - the youngest Argentinian to do so - and in October 2008 completed his qualification for the GM title - again, he was the youngest native-born Argentinian to reach that level. He is currently ranked number five in Argentina. In a recent interview he said that his favourite language was English and his favourite book Alexei Shirov's Fire on Board. He is a friend of Magnus Carlsen and was born in the same year (which was a particularly fruitful one for brilliant young players - Karyakin, Vachier-Lagrave and Howell were all products of the vintage 1990 harvest). His Internet Chess Club handle is 'Blitz-King', which is no exaggeration: his blitz rating is somewhere in excess of 3200. He is a fan of San Lorenzo de Almagro Football Club in Buenos Aires - and sent me a photo of him wearing their colours. He recently moved to Spain to further his chess career. He finished a very good second equal at the 2009 Porto Mannu Open, half a point behind the Gibtelecom Festival's very own favourite chessplayer and ace commentator GM Stuart Conquest!.

Luego de la segunda jornada del torneo senior correspondiente al año 2010 disputada el jueves 27 en instalaciones de la Sociedad de Fomento “Héctor N Amoroso” el representante de la Sociedad de Fomento Pueblo Nuevo Jorge Harotzarena lidera con el puntaje ideal. Cómo escoltas se encuentran Juan Kromberger y Francisco De León a un punto pero con una fecha menos.
La próxima jornada se llevará a cabo el lunes a partir se las 21hs en instalaciones de la entidad fomentista con los siguientes pareos:

Un nuevo puntero del verano.
Se llevó a cabo el cuarto torneo abierto de ajedrez que organiza la Asociación “La Valija” fiscalizado por la Federación de Ajedrez de Olavarría. El mismo se jugó, como es habitual, por sistema suizo a siete rondas a cinco minutos por jugador. En esta oportunidad repite el primer puesto por segunda vez consecutiva Horacio Pereyra, quién con estos resultados quedó puntero en la tabla general.

South-American, the first youngest International Master in history (at 15, in 1967) and a strong player in the 1970's, Mecking has never been a world champion, but has had such a good performance that he occupied the third place in FIDE world rankings - only behind the world champion and the vice world champion at the time, Anatoly Karpov and Viktor Korchnoi, respectively.
He was so popular that, in his country, he was compared to Pelé (in soccer) and Emerson Fittipaldi (in the F1). Also, he had his face on the covers of many magazines and newspapers, like Veja magazine, one of the most popular in Brazil. His reputation was such that his name turned into song lyrics, composed by the rock singer Raul Seixas and the writer Paulo Coelho. He even had the governor's support at the time, who always met him after his triumphs in the tournaments.

El gigante holandés de la banca ING ha tenido una idea excelente al producir una serie de anuncios publicitarios protagonizados por el excampeón del mundo. En lo que hasta la fecha parece ser una estafa sin precedentes en la historia del ajedrez peruano, un grupo de Grandes Maestros (GM) de ajedrez han sido burlados por Luis Miguel Moreno Miranda, el organizador del Festival Internacional de Ajedrez José Marca In Memorian, que tuvo lugar en la ciudad del Cuzco, al sureste del Perú. Uno de los GM estafados fue el peruano Emilio Córdova, quien solo recibió un pasaje para que viajara desde México D.F., donde reside actualmente, hacia Lima, sin que le hayan pagado sus honorarios ni dos premios en dólares que ganó en los torneos que jugó. “A pesar de las reiteradas promesas que nos hizo Moreno desde que se inició el torneo el pasado 4 de enero, hasta la fecha”, una semana después que acabó el torneo, “ni siquiera tengo el pasaje de regreso para México, que fue parte del acuerdo para que yo participara en los torneos”, dijo Córdova en una entrevista telefónica con La Tribuna Hispana USA. Organizado por la Federación de Ajedrez de Olavarría dará comienzo el lunes 24 a partir de las 21hs en instalaciones de la Sociedad de Fomento “Héctor N Amoroso” el campeonato senior correspondiente al año 2010 y que determinará el desafiante que enfrentará al campeón Juan Scipioni representante de la Biblioteca “Héctor N Amoroso”.
Lo mismo se estabece para el campeonato femenino que en este caso determinará desafiante a la actual campeona, también representante de la Biblioteca “Héctor N Amoroso” Paola Nievas.
Para ambos eventos el cierre de inscripción se hará el jueves 20 de 21hs a 22hs en instalaciones de la Asosiación “ La Valija ” ( Givanelli y Riobamba). Las inscripciones podrán también efectivizarse por nota o correo electrónico dirijido a secretaría.

Este año, participarán jugadores como Vassily Ivanchuk, Michael Adams, Fabiano Caruana, Paco Vallejo, Victor Bologan, Krishnan Sasikiran, Alexander Onischuk, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, Kiril Georgiev, Nigel Short, para solo nombrar a los más fuertes entre quienes figuran ahora en la lista de participantes. Juega también toda la familia Cramling-Bellón: Pia, Juan Manuel y su hija Ana. La bolsa de premios ascenderá a 126.000 libras esterlinas. El lugar del encuentro, como siempre, será el hotel Caleta.

Between January 24 and February 3, 2011 there will be celebrated the Festival IX of Chess Gibtelecom. This year, players will inform as Vassily Ivanchuk, Michael Adams, Fabiano Caruana, Alpaca Vallejo, Victor Bologan, Krishnan Sasikiran, Alexander Onischuk, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, Kiril Georgiev, Nigel Short, only to name the strongest between whom they appear now in the list of participants. It plays also the whole family Cramling-Bellón: Pious, Juan Manuel and his daughter Ana. The bag of prizes will promote to 126.000 pounds sterlings. Todos los años, la ciudad de Tallin, el lugar donde nació Paul Keres (07.01.1916 - 05.06.1975) es anfitriona de un torneo en recuerdo y homenaje a ese gran ajedrecista. La vigésima edición del torneo, que a la vez festejó el XCV aniversario del nacimiento de Keres, se llevó a cabo entre el 7 y el 9 de enero y fue ganado por el español, nacido en Letonia, Alexei Shirov. En el segundo lugar de esta competición de tres días, se clasificó el estonio de nacimiento Jaan Ehlvest.

Every year, the city of Tallinn, the birthplace of Paul Keres(07/01/1916 to 05/06/1975) is hosting a tournament in memory ofand tribute to this great chess player. The twentieth edition of the tournament, which simultaneously celebrated the birthday of XCVKeres, took place between 7 and 9 January and was won by theSpanish, born in Latvia, Alexei Shirov. In the second of this three-day competition, qualified birth Estonian Jaan Ehlvest.

Karjakin gana duelo contra Nepomniachtchi

se han enfrentado en un duelo de seis partidas por el título del Maestro de la RSCU (Universidad Estatal de Ciencias Sociales).

Ambos grandes maestros son estudiantes inscritos en esta universidad. El duelo consistió en dos partidas de ajedrez rápido y cuatro de ajedrez relámpago. En las partidas de ajedrez relámpago, Nepomniachtchi logró igualar el marcador. Contrario a la Superfinal de Rusia, donde Karjakin no logró realizar su posición ganadora en la partida a "muerte súbita", esta vez sí se alzó con la victoria, aguantando las tablas con piezas negras con 5 contra 6 minutos.

Rocca di Papa, como sugiere el nombre, es el sitio donde suele veranear el Papa, un pequeño pueblo en una colina, en las afueras de Roma. Recientemente fue también sede de un torneo de ajedrez rápido de un día y a nueve rondas, con más de 150 participantes, organizado por Caissa Italia, una editorial de libros de ajedrez. La invitada de honor este año fue Judit Polgar, que no solo ganó el torneo, sino que también protagonizó una interesante charla-coloquio. Les ofrecemos un reportaje ilustrado por Diana Mihajlova en el cual también ha resumido los momentos más interesantes de la charla de Judit.

Magnus Carlsen recuperó el primer lugar en el mundo, al alcanzar un ranking de 2814. Le siguen Viswanathan Anand (2810), Levon Aronian (2805), Vladimir Kramnik (2784) y Sergey Karjakin (2776).
En cuanto a los argentinos, por primera vez en la historia tenemos 4 jugadores con más de 2600. Los primeros cinco lugares son para:

Año 2011: Seguir trabajando en pro del ajedrez

10-01-2011 En 2 años el ritmo de este blog no ha variado y eso no va a cambiar en 2011. La idea sigue siendo la misma: trabajar, sin ánimo de lucro, para difundir el ajedrez y dar a conocer todo el universo que encierra entre sus casillas, el cual suele permanecer oculto a la mayoría de aficionados. Ya son más de 100 personas las que se pasan por aquí a diario, por lo que el trabajo está dando sus frutos.

Tratarémos de seguir mostrando la parte más bella de este deporte, con sus jugadas más espectaculares, así como continuar con la publicación de artículos sobre temas que consideremos interesantes. Esa es la parte entretenida, pero el ajedrez también es una herramienta útil en muchos aspectos, tanto educativos como en otros campos de la vida, y por eso merece la pena el esfuerzo de tratar de llevarlo al mayor número de personas.
